The SIMPSONs
Mar. 7th, 2005 08:21 amI meant to put this into last nights "REAL UPDATE" but I forgot... So it has warranted it's own post.
I don't normally watch TV but was intrigued by hearing the Simpson's and the whole gay marriage situation. SO I watched it.
They didn't come out in favour of anything in my opinion. If anything, they did a disservice to gay marriage. Specifically I take issue with the sister refusing to marry the (what turned out to be) guy because "I like woman damnit". NOW... that turns the whole marriage decision into a political statement. Instead of one based around love, honesty and respect. IF she had said she wouldn't marry him because HE LIED TO HER, it would have supported that marriage is about the love we feel for one another REGARDLESS of gender. BUT NO, they made it a political decision which IMHO undermines the whole argument for gay marriage. I'm kinda irritated by how many people I've heard who are so happy that the Simpson's made this show. I don't understand how turning the "LOVE" decision into a "'political" decision is a good thing....
And now, back to your regularly scheduled program.
