Christmas....
Dec. 15th, 2005 09:38 pmIs it really in 10 days...??
Now I am typically a great Christmas Grinch...I hate the holidays. Comes from years of always having one parent upset at us for wanting to be with the other parent, add a healthy dose of NEVER sleeping in my own bed and way too many hours in car... every xmas season.... Made a fine grinch out of me. Add an additional dash of disliking the materialistic consumerism of this time of year, sprinkle generously with a health disdain for the "expectations" associated with sending Christmas cards to people I've not SPOKEN with in 3 years.. and you get a pretty good picture of the grinch that is me during the holidays.
I am however, a good sport. That's why I joined the secret santa game at the office, only to have the Assistant Director be MY secret santa.., and why every christmas card I have been given has been posted in my cubicle, with tinsel and xmas tree decorations to highlight it... AND..shuffled my schedule to take the MANDATORY days off that I'm supposed to take next week... AND also why there are scalloped yams in my oven (at 9:30 at night), a "grab-it" gift wrapped on my table with a separate special gift for my supervisor without whose candor, support, and guidance in the past 6 months I'd never have survived. I am a grinch. But not a spoil sport.
My Christmas Tree is up and lit. My daughter enjoys wrapping gifts. Maybe I still need a "grinch costume" for tomorrow in order to amuse the locals......but at least I'm taking the yams.
