So I dropped a little over 400$ into the Neon for fluid changes in mid May.
On Tuesday, I dropped a little over 500$ into brake work, tire replacement and some kind of rod in the front end.
Then I looked. My brakes had been replaced in Dec. That's just under 6 months...NOT a good sign.
Neither was driving it home and having visible smoke blowing off the left rear tire. A conversation with the Mechanic said, drive again, it could be the oil from the new brakes burning off...or the caliper pin...
Drove it again today...hrm...didn't smoke on the way to the shop...smoked ALL the way home.
zagatto says we've put 3 sets of caliper pins into the Neon since we bought it. His research shows this is a common problem with Neons.
I'm looking at about another $250 next week to make my car functional. A car is a condition of my employment. This one is almost paid off...
We'll be looking for a new one, and to offload this one by fall.
I drive way too much for a car that requires this much maintenance. I want to look into a hybrid. Any one with leads on hybrids that reduces the upfront cost (cause I really can't afford that right now)...send them my way.
