The Sleep Clinic (James went to the one on King Street, it's across the street from Grand River)

The process takes a while, and requires overnight stays so you can be hooked up to machines.

and, when I called a year ago or so, I was told that walk-ins are not permitted. Must be referred by a family physician first.

Yeah, that's usually the deal for sleep disorders. On the upside of that, the federal government covers part of the cost of some sleep disorder therapies (like sleep apnea machines...I believe they still cover 75% of the cost, and your plan provider should pick up most of the rest).

Hey hon.
Looks like I'm not on that filter and can't see this link.

If you can handle the wait (around 12 weeks), I'm very happy with the cognitive behavioural therapist my family doctor referred me to -- plus it's covered by OHIP. It sounds like you're in for a doctor's visit anyway to get a referral to the sleep clinic.

I looked into the OHIP angle; looks like only the therapy cases that are medically driven via medication are allowed to be covered by OHIP.

at least that was what my doctor said today when I asked her :)

Interesting! My doctor never mentioned that distinction.

Did she give you a referral even if it's not covered?

she was happy to refer me to KW Counselling, *but* not an official referral with paperwork et al; just a verbal "hey, you could try KW Counselling and see if they have therapists you can talk to" kind of thing.

interesting indeed. No idea how accurate it is.

Wow, that's kind of useless.

it's ok; I'm already seeing someone who came recommended and so far, so good :)

Mine is being medically driven.

She doesn't want to increase my cipralex dosage any higher.

Please send me the details.

I have to tell my Dr. who I want to be referred to.
I'm being medically drive so likely will be covered by OHIP

All my doctor did was send a referral to KW Counseling. They called me once shortly after receiving the referral to confirm I wanted to see a therapist, and once around twelve weeks later to give me my appointment. I don't think KW Counseling takes requests to see a particular therapist, but her name's Delrine if that helps.

and keep in mind, please, that my doctor could be out to lunch about this whole thing :)

Who is your CBT? That's ideally where I'd like to be.
