The universe really does when it wants too...
So here's the thing. My family (my dads' side) mostly all live in the Niagara penisula. We buried my grandparents not far from the FACS office that I will be working out of. I found the universe's intense references to "going home" a trifle on the heavy side a couple of times today. And irony of ironies, the co-worker I am training with, is the worker for my uncles case. I knew this would come up so made a point of mentioning my maiden name. We briefly discussed that she did indeed know the name, made the connection, and determined that while I am not uncomfortable with it, I recognize the conflict of interest and will not have access to the case files.
Overall, I spent the day reading. And I was right, I am the oldest of the "new hires". Everyone else's experience is recent and most are current graduates. Yet I got offered the permanent position rather than the temporary one. That makes me curious. I will be in Welland (50 min drive) most days, though my training is scattered from Niagara Falls to Brantford between now and the end of June. Then no further training until September. I have one case already and another on deck for transfer. I am expected to hold between 15 & 22 cases all told. I am in family services so all of my clients will be ongoing follow up.
I am going to like this job.
