My Dancing

First of all.. the performance last Wednesday evening was a ton of fun.  Somehow I ended up closing the show... Which was rather disquieting as there were 2 full-length Cabaret pieces (20 min each), R D's lovely gooey piece and a drum solo and then me.  We performed through out the dinner, with my piece being just before desert.  I did 2 songs by "The Children of Paradise".  The first I intended as a veil piece (but after the other girls ALL did veil, I thought I would leave mine out) and the 2nd was a faster drum solo style piece.  I was freeeeeekin' nervous.  Not only do I not have a great deal of performing experience.  But this was in a restaurant, and it turned out that the space was open for all the restaurant goers to see.

I have real self-esteem issues about my dancing.  And yet, sometimes when I get people coming up to me after a performance, or even from around a campfire, and talk to me about it, I realize after a while that maybe they aren't just being nice.  I was also moved by being asked to provide some private lessons to one of the other performers.

So from here, I guess I mention that I am taking a hiatus from teaching.  With Joe's schedule so unpredictable and Katina's really needing more consistency in her schedule, I am taking the summer off from teaching.  I am looking forward to having my evenings home.  I may still do a bi-weekly imformal class at R D's studio just to keep in touch and keep me sharp.  And then whatever little bit of dancing I end up doing on Sunday's with V and crowd...  I really enjoyed the Layali last Sunday night, it was so nice to see what's happening in TO and to dance to a live band again.

That's it...  I'm out of here....
